RONNIE TJAMPTJINPA
(c. 1943 – June 2023) was a celebrated Aboriginal artist from the Pintupi people, born at Tjiturrunyain Western Australia. He grew up living a traditional nomadic lifestyle before moving to Papunya in the 1950s, where he became one of the founding members of the Papunya Tula Artists group.
Ronnie’s bold, geometric paintings often depicted Tingari Dreaming stories, central to Pintupi culture. His work gained national and international recognition and is held in major galleries across Australia. He was known for both his artistic innovation and cultural leadership within his community.
