Eileen Bird Kngwarreye
Eileen Bird Kngwarreye (b. c.1955) is an Eastern Anmatyerre/Eastern Arrernte artist from Central Australia, based around Harts Range. Married to Paddy Bird, son of renowned Utopia painter Ada Bird Petyarre, she began painting in the mid-1990s.
Her work, in acrylic on canvas, often depicts Awelye (women’s ceremonial body designs) and Arlatyeye (Pencil Yam Dreaming), using fine dotwork and brushstrokes to represent seeds and blossoms in bold, vibrant colours. Represented by Mbantua Gallery, her paintings are held in major Australian and international collections.
